Who else grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons? Does anyone else still watch them today? I’ll be honest, I am still a kid at heart and I am not ashamed to admit it! I’m a huge fan of all sorts of cartoons and animated series; I also can’t help but enjoy the variety of genres to choose from. There seems to be this stigma attached to cartoons that they are only meant for children…but if anyone has watched anime then they would quickly realize that the stigma simply isn’t true. I have a whole separate section dedicated to anime so if you’d like to read my thoughts on it then go ahead and click on the “Anime” page.
Although it is true that there are cartoons specifically made for children, it doesn’t necessarily mean that cartoons can’t be geared toward adults as well. For example, one of my favorite animated series growing up and even to this day is X-Men: Evolution. This series surrounded a cast of characters that were not only struggling with their mutant powers while trying to live a normal life, but also the adversity and discrimination from a society that feared them. This show addressed darker and more serious themes that some kids won’t be able to grasp yet. However, the show’s tone can also be light and comedic that helps take the edge off of the more serious moments; I believe this made it easier for younger viewers to enjoy the show alongside the older audiences.
